2012 Mantle Championship Update

     Paesan’s Pizza To Go won the championship in the Huntington County Baseball Mickey Mantle League double-elimination tournament at Homier Park.

     Paesan’s team of 15 – 17 year olds went right into the Loser’s Bracket of the tourney at the hands of OSV/Clear Creek.  Paesan’s then defeated every team in the Mantle League to earn a rematch in the HCB Championship.

     Paesan’s proceeded to sweep the championship doubleheader with OSV/Clear Creek, winning the first game by a 9 – 1 score, then taking the nightcap 10 – 3.

     In the first game, Lucas Johnson led the Paesan’s scoring attack, scoring 3 runs on 3 hits with a stolen base.  Starting pitcher Trevor Willour held OSV/Clear Creek to 1 run in 4 innings with 9 strikeouts, allowing only 2 hits.  Kody Smith closed the game, commanding 3 shutout innings with 5 strikeouts.

     Seth Beeks led the scoring drive for Paesan’s in the nightcap, scoring 3 runs on 3 solid hits with a stolen base.  PJ Felton’s bases-clearing triple sparked an early 3 – 0 lead for Paesan’s; Aaron Hiles’ RBI base hit scored Felton, securing a 4 – 0 lead, in the first inning, to start the Final Game which would ultimately be enough to defeat OSV/Clear Creek.  Paesan’s pitchers Willour and Smith combined for 10 strikeouts and 11 runners left on base to pin down the HCB Mantle League Championship.
